Jim Pugh
Jim Pugh is Professor of Trombone at Purchase College, New York. He studied at the Eastman School of Music with Emory Remington, Donald Knaub, Ray Wright and Chuck Mangione. Upon leaving Eastman, he joined the Woody Herman Band as lead trombone and featured soloist and over the next four years made many recordings including two Grammy Award-winning albums, "Giant Steps" and "Thundering Herd".
 
Jim Pugh began studying piano at the age of five and trombone at the age of ten. Before attending the Eastman School of Music, he studied trombone with Matty Shiner of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. While at Eastman, Jim studied with Emory Remington, Donald Knaub, Chuck Mangione, Ray Wright and received Eastman's Performer's Certificate in 1972.
 
Upon leaving Eastman, Jim joined the Woody Herman Band as lead trombone and featured soloist and recorded extensively with Woody over the next four years. Recordings during these years include two Grammy Award-winning albums, "Giant Steps" and "Thundering Herd" and "The 40th Anniversary Concert". After leaving Woody in 1976, he recorded and toured with Chick Corea for two years. Recordings with Chick include "Musicmagic", "Secret Agent" and "Return To Forever - Live".
 
Since settling down in New York, Jim has been in constant demand for the recording of films, records and jingles having performed on more than 4000 recording sessions to date. He is the only reciepient of the National Acadeny of Recording Arts & Sciences Virtuoso Award for trombone, given after he was voted Trombone MVP by the New York recording community for five years.

日本には"マンハッタン・ジャズ・オーケストラ"のリード・トロンボーンとして数回来日し、そのファンも多い。
また、ジャズ・トロンボーングループ「Super Trombone」のCD(3作発売中)では、毎回、好評を得ている。
